Trash (garbage and recycle) chutes are an integral part of multiple-occupancy, multiple story buildings. They provide a convenient means of transporting refuse to a central collection point (Trash Collection Room). The chutes are actually very sophisticated systems, in that they are designed to move trash and garbage, but also provide a fire protection barrier. If these systems become clogged or impacted with residue (grease or organic materials) they become a DANGEROUS conduit or chimney for fire. But most importantly they act as a multiple floor elevator system for urban pests.
COCKROACHES are aggressive and persistent pests, and will take up residence wherever there is a food source.
The most common of the urban pests are cockroaches and the most commonly found in the cockroach family is the GERMAN COCKROACH. If left unchecked, one female GERMAN COCKROACH (typically found indoors) can produce up to 30,000 offspring in one year.
Also very commonly found is the AMERICAN COCKROACH, usually an outside dweller, will seek dark, moist areas for harborage and then travel to nearby sources to feed.
Cockroaches tend to gather in the Trash Collection Rooms; in and around the dumpsters and wall voids, and use the Trash Chutes as a means of moving up into the actual living areas.
PROPER TRASH CHUTE CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE is highly specialized, and requires close coordination between the building management and maintenance teams, and the residents. If properly planned, with the required materials pre-staged, the process can be smooth and efficient.
ExCimex will inspect and develop a Trash Chute cleaning and maintenance plan specifically for each unique application. We work closely with management, as well as local authorities to PREVENT any residue from entering the storm drain system. Our process uses only GREEN enzyme products which biologically break down the residue. We also utilize a specially formulated de-odorizing product, and then introduce a low volume pesticide barrier. We work alongside maintenance personnel, and provide hands-on training.
